How to Explore and Use Existing Universes in LongStories

What are existing universes?

You don't have to build everything from scratch. When you open LongStories, there are ready-made universes waiting:

• The Open Universe — a flexible default that doesn't lock you into any specific style.
• LongStories Universes — curated worlds built by the LongStories team.
• Featured Community Universes — public worlds built by other creators.

All of them are available to everyone, and they're the best starting point if you're new to the platform.

Why explore before building

Trying existing universes helps you:

• See what a well-configured universe actually produces.
• Learn how style and tone stay consistent across different prompts.
• Understand what you'd want from your own universe before designing it.
• Get a finished video quickly, with zero setup.

How to test an existing universe

1. Click Create New Video, then Change Universe to browse what's available — or explore the Universes page in the sidebar.
2. Pick a LongStories or community universe, or the Open Universe.
3. Type a short, simple idea:

• "A friendly robot exploring a futuristic city."
• "A brave knight discovering a hidden forest."

4. Leave the other settings at their defaults (a short duration keeps the test fast and cheap).
5. Click Generate Video.

When the video finishes, pay attention to:

• Style consistency — do all scenes look like they belong together?
• Narrator tone — does it feel right for the content?
• Overall mood — is this a world you'd want to build in?

The Open Universe

The Open Universe is the most flexible option. It doesn't enforce a visual style or tone — it's built for flexible storytelling across all genres and styles.

Use it when:

• You're doing a quick test with no particular style in mind.
• You want maximum creative freedom on a one-off video.
• You're still figuring out which direction to go.

The trade-off: less consistency across videos. Each generation may look a little different — by design.

Curated and community universes

LongStories and community universes come with predefined styles, moods, and narrative rules. Generating inside one immediately gives you a coherent aesthetic.

Use them when:

• You want to see a fully realized style before committing to building your own.
• A ready-made style fits your content and you don't need your own branding.
• You want to produce polished videos quickly, without setup.

When to move to a custom universe

Switch to your own universe when:

• You're making more than a few videos and want them to match.
• You need a specific look no existing universe provides.
• You're building a series with recurring characters and a distinct world.
