You can bring almost any voice from ElevenLabs into LongStories and use it for your characters or your narrator. This guide walks you through how.

Requirements

Adding custom voices is available on paid plans. Voice slots by plan:

If you're on the free plan, you'll see an upgrade prompt when you try to add a voice. Current plan pricing is on the pricing page.

How to add a voice

Step 1: Find a voice on ElevenLabs

Go to elevenlabs.io.
Browse or search for a voice you like.
Click Share on the voice and copy the link — or simply copy the voice page's URL from your browser.

Step 2: Paste the link in LongStories

Open any voice picker — a character's voice, or the narrator voice for your universe or video.
Click Add a custom voice to expand the import section.
Paste the ElevenLabs link into the ElevenLabs voice link field.
Click Add voice.

You'll see "Voice added!" and the voice is immediately available in your voice list — for narration and for character dialogue.

Managing your voices

The import section shows how many slots you've used (for example, 2/3 used) and lists the voices you've added, with each voice's name and description. If you've reached your limit, upgrading to a higher plan adds more slots

Use this guide while editing your LongStories script. The script reviewer uses the same checklist to grade your script, so a script that follows these rules will pass review.

The editor highlights each element as you type — that's your fastest feedback loop:

Sky blue — spoken text (narration and dialogue)
Violet — speaker labels (not spoken)
Green — valid visual beats (not spoken)
Gray — break tags (not spoken)

The rule of thumb: anything highlighted blue will be read aloud. If a visual beat shows blue instead of green, it's malformed — fix it or the narrator will read it out.

Character dialogue

Use character dialogue when a specific character should speak.

Professor Time: Welcome to the lecture!
Girl Maria: Thanks, I'm excited to learn.
Male Roman Citizen: The gates are open.
Female General: Hold the line.

Format:

Character Name: Dialogue goes here.

A speaker label must be 1 to 4 words with no sentence punctuation (. ! ? ;). Capitalization doesn't matter — john: works fine. The label itself is never spoken; only the text after the colon is read.

These labels won't work — the whole line gets treated as narration and read aloud:

The brave hero of the northern kingdom: We must go.

Not every colon means dialogue, and that's by design: if the text before a colon is a full sentence or longer than 4 words, LongStories treats the line as

Log in to LongStories and open Universes in the sidebar.

What happens when you attach a style to a Universe

When a Universe has a visual style selected:

New projects in that Universe use the style automatically.
Every scene is generated with that style direction.
Your script still drives the characters, actions, and locations.

The style you pick is the main visual direction for every scene in the project — it's worth getting right before you generate.

How your style shapes each image

For every scene, LongStories combines three things:

Scene instructions from your script
Character consistency references
The reference images from your selected visual style

The style reference images are the most powerful of the three. If they look realistic, your video will look realistic. If they look like Pixar, your video will look like Pixar. Whatever visual language they speak, your scenes will speak it too.

Choosing strong style reference images

Your reference images should teach the look, not tell your story. A good style pack:

Has several images, not just one.
Varies the content — close-ups, wide shots, indoors, outdoors, different subjects.
Stays in one style family. Every image should feel like it came from the same film.
